CPR: Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation: a critical action to save human lives in case of Cardiac Arrest
Life saving technique that help maintain blood flow to the brain and heart in an emergency.
I was attending a regular yearly phenomenon in an industrial/manufacturing setup where in, all the people in a plant undergo a safety training. This is for creating awareness as well as equipping personnel to face an emergency situation and handling it with aptness. There is another training which is firefighting, how to handle the situation in case of fire accident. There is team in most of manufacturing setup called ERT – Emergency Response Team, who take over the situation in case of emergency and all personnel has to follow the instructions by this team.
Another day I was reading about Control Tower concept in a Supply Chain management and I immediately correlated this to ERT.
You must be wondering, I started with CPR and the narration went elsewhere. Ok thanks for reminding, so CPR
- CPR Saves lives
- CPR Restores Blood Supply to Heart
- CPR brings breathing to normalcy
- CPR Protects Brain Death
- In CPR Every Minute Counts
- CPR Gives Faster Recovery
- CPR is given when a person has a cardiac arrest.
The indictors for a likely cardiac arrest are: KPI’s
Shortness of breath, Extreme tiredness (unusual fatigue), Back pain, Flu-like symptoms, Belly pain, nausea, and vomiting, Chest pain, mainly angina, Repeated dizziness or fainting, Heart palpitations, or feeling as if your heart is racing, fluttering, or skipping a beat
Consider Human body to an organization.
Do you correlate the symptoms of human body and an organizational KPI’s?
Yes, you are right, I am referring to business situations where the Supply is badly affected and there is huge pressure on Brain & Heart of the business, leading to question of survival, where an ERT need to be pressed in to action and CPR need to be given!
I am referring to Supply Chain CPR: i.e. what should be the immediate action in the golden hour period, which will help to revive the condition
- Collaboration & Communication
- Prioritization & Proactiveness
- Resilience & Robustness
You need to be highly collaborative, keeping watch on every minute situation and highly communicative to all the concerned. You need to prioritize the jobs in hand, and need to be more proactive to gain access to situational information as well as proactively communicating the actions initiated. You also need to be resilient both mentally ( Positivity outlook) as well as bringing the optional plans in play while making sure about the robustness of the backup system to support the plan. This will restore the supply of blood and increases the chances of survival.
So, to face the Business Cardiac Arrest situation, ERT with Supply Chain CPR is a must in an organization and a regular health check-up via critically developed KPI’s to find any abnormality indicators which might lead to a Business Cardiac Arrest. On one side the team must be ready to do” Fire Fighting”, but side by side Supply Chain CPR is a must to bring back the situation to normalcy or near normalcy.
A Black Swan event like Pandemic has exposed many weaknesses in supply chains of almost all the organizations, but learning from events like these are we preparing the ERT’s which will carry out Supply Chain CPR to overcome the situation?
